Choosing or taking a picture that would make a great Wall Splat™ is easy if you follow a few simple steps.

File Types
We can accept the following file types: JPEG, TIFF, BMP, PNG, EPS, PDF and AI. Please send images in an RGB color space. This makes transferring files easier, and maintains brighter colors in the original files.

Not all Wall Splatz™ images need to be photographs. Logos and computer-generated images are also welcome. Vector based images are ideal because image resolution is not a factor, however if the image has been bitmapped, or has placed bitmapped images in it, please use images that are no less than 56 pixels per inch at 100% the desired size. Ideally, 72 pixels per inch or higher will result in a better-looking image. Please do not send files of images that you do not own, or have permission to use.

Photo Image Resolution
How large of an image do I need?
The higher the resolution, and the sharper image you provide to us, the better the image will look as a Wall Splat™. For best results always set your camera to the highest possible resolution. Making sure the subject fills the frame will also provide more pixel data, resulting in a sharper image. We recommend using at least a 4 megapixel camera set to "highest" or "fine" quality. A jpeg image that is over 1,500Kb (1.5Mb) in size is suggested to start with.

Look at your image close-up!
Before you pick an image for your Wall Splat™, take a few minutes and zoom up on the image. Sometime when your looking at thumbnail views or even full screen, you won’t notice blurry images or other artifacts in the image that you may not want.

Point of View
Unique point of view pictures can be a creative way to decorate a ceiling, door or other unique room. However. For a general rule, when taking photographs, try to take straight on shots of your subject. Shots taken from elevated or lower point of view tend to look distorted when the background is clipped out.

Backgrounds
When choosing what angle to take a picture from, or setting up a portrait picture, use simple, non-cluttered backgrounds. Photos where the subject is easily separated from the background make a better Wall Splat.

Objects and cropping
When considering a photo as a Wall Splatz™ image, take note of other objects that may be interfering with the main subject, such as a fence, or another person in the foreground. If the image is clipped, parts of the main subject might look amputated. Cropping will also affect the final product. If the main subject is a baseball player up to bat, and the top of the bat extends out of the picture, the image will look incomplete when it’s clipped out. To use an image like this you may want to consider a “Poster Splat™” or “Border Splat™”, these will help frame the image on the wall without drawing attention to the missing bat. The same rule applies to cropped feet, hands, heads, or any other body part.

Motion Images
Use the fastest shutter speed possible when taking digital images with motion. Any motion blur cannot be clipped accurately. The base material of Wall Splatz™ is white, and will not allow background wall color to show through to create the same blur effect you see in your picture.

Image Clipping
Complex clipping of detailed objects, or multiple people may make installation difficult, and may require additional charges. Simple edges on the subject image make great Wall Splatz™ that install easy, look great, and keep the focus on the main subject.
